Shopping in Kuta, Bali, is every shopper's paradise. Especially for holidaymakers and nomads living in Bali that love a good bargain. There are plenty of shops and markets to find great deals for unique souvenirs, tax-free shopping on big-name brands, and more.
Find everything from handmade sarongs, batik prints, and intricate woodwork to luxury bags and cheap groceries. As Kuta is a more extensive region and is closer to Denpasar, shopping here is much more affordable than in other popular areas in Bali, like Canggu and Ubud.
So whether you're living in Kuta for a while or just visiting for a few days, you'll know where to go for souvenirs, luxury brands and simple daily groceries. Here's our guide to some of the best places to go shopping in Kuta, Bali.

Souvenir Shopping in Kuta, Bali
Souvenir shopping in Kuta is a favourite pastime for many tourists. Kuta has many souvenir shops, street stalls and even large malls dedicated to offering you the best trinkets from Bali.
Although you will find souvenir shops almost on every street corner, finding a good bargain can be challenging, especially when there is too much choice.
Based on our experience, we've listed some of our favourite spots for souvenir shopping in Kuta on some key factors.
Firstly we chose places which we found a great variety and quality of the products. Secondly is the price. While most things are already very cheap coming from Europe, we wouldn't mind shopping around to get a better price. Lastly, we chose these spots based on our shopping experience.
Kuta Art Market
Kuta Art Market is on a narrow street that leads towards the beach. You'll find numerous stalls and some large shophouses selling typical souvenirs from Bali.
From fridge magnets, keychains, surfboard-shaped door plaques, and T-shirts to colourful sarongs, large artworks and woodwork. While clothes and cheap accessories are the main highlights at this market, you can also find cheap fruits and local snacks to sample.
Vendors and shopkeepers will try to grab your attention as you walk past. If something catches your eye, get ready to bargain at this street market, as the owners can significantly reduce most prices. Sometimes even to half the original price.
We advise you never to agree to their first price and be prepared to walk away. However, if you miss out on a bargain, don't worry. You're almost guaranteed to find another place selling the same item during your stay in Bali.
This is because most of the handmade products come from the same local artisans in nearby villages. The souvenir items are also very similar to the ones you'll find in Ubud and Canggu.
For us, the Kuta Art Market is a one-time affair. It can get very crowded and loud as vendors shout over each other. Nonetheless, it's great to experience the lively local shopping culture.

Poppies Lane II
For a quieter and less crowded shopping experience on the streets, make your way to Poppies Lane II. It's an area that most people will walk by as you head towards Kuta Beach.
When you pass by in the early mornings or late afternoons, it's usually not very packed. Although the variety is smaller than at Kuta Art Market, it's a much more pleasant shopping experience.
Also, most things are in the shophouses, and the shopkeepers will leave you alone to lurk around first. You will find plenty of patterned dresses, beachwear and simple t-shirts here. However, there are not many handicrafts to choose from.

Krisna Oleh
If you're not a fan of haggling on the streets but still want a great bargain buy, put Krisna Oleh on your to-do list for shopping in Kuta.
It's a large shopping mall complex with several floors dedicated to Balinese souvenirs. You can get your hands on beautiful batik prints, sarongs, intricately carved wooden art displays and even some silver jewellery.
This shopping complex is very spacious, with AC flowing throughout. In addition, plenty of friendly shop floor staff can help you find what you need. They're also not persistent if you want to be left alone and window shop.
Although the prices are fixed, it's still relatively cheap and gave us a good insight into the general market prices for souvenir shopping in Kuta. In particular, we found the rattan bags were pretty cheap. They also looked the nicest compared to the ones in Kuta Art Market.
You can also find snacks and Balinese cakes here, but the products didn't look as fresh, and prices were less competitive than in some grocery markets we've seen. Therefore, we suggest you avoid doing any snack shopping here.
While we didn't go through all the floors, we expect it would take you a few hours to do so.

Shopping in Kuta (International Brands)
Thanks to the booming tourism industry, an excellent range of international brands are stationed in Kuta. Many of these big-name brands are cheaper in Bali than in the west. This is because big brands have slightly adjusted the prices for the local market.
Besides the price, you'll find some designs only in Southeast Asia. But, even if you're not here to shop, these shopping malls have good options for local, East Asian, and western cuisines and great coffee shops to hang out at. Sometimes, it's even better than going to a warung or cafe in Kuta.
beachwalk Shopping Center
One of our favourite shopping malls to head to is beachwalk Shopping Centre. It's the closest modern shopping mall to Kuta Beach, with four levels. The design combines modern aspects with traditional Balinese elements.
On the first floor, there's a small green park surrounded by a winding Koi pond. There are regular cultural experiences, cute mascots and family-friendly events to keep everyone entertained.
For us, the open space concept and large walkway made it a relatively relaxing shopping experience despite many tourists.
When you're here, you might feel like you're back home due to the number of familiar brands you'll see.
Find brands like H&M, Pull & Bear, Zara, L'Occtaine and more. Make sure you take a quick glance around these familiar shops. We noticed quite a few designs which we've never seen back home. For skincare products, there were also different ranges and bottle sizes.
If you're waiting around, you can catch a film at their cinema on the second floor. Alternatively, head to Arabica for a coffee while overlooking Kuta's beachfront.

Mal Bali Galeria
We would go to Mal Bali Galeria for a less tourist-filled shopping mall. Although it's not as impressive as the beachfront Shopping Centre and is one of the oldest malls in Bali, it's well maintained.
During our visit, we came across very few tourists. Instead, most shoppers here were locals living in Kuta. We liked how there was a fantastic mix of local and international brands here, and it was less crowded.
You'll find local department stores, bookstores and hardware stores for cheap groceries. However, this isn't the place to do souvenir shopping in Kuta. There's only a smaller selection of souvenirs here, and the prices are higher.
For international brands, prices are similar compared to other shopping malls in Kuta. Meanwhile, for local brands, there are always promotions that you can take advantage of.
Although the mall doesn't update its events online, monthly cultural events and traditional craft fairs happen at the centre of this mall. There's a cinema and even an ice rink to skate for entertainment.
We recommend you visit during the late evenings or early mornings on a weekday. It can get packed with locals on the weekends.

T Galleria By DFS, Bali
Next to Mall Bali Galeria is T Galleria By DFS, an excellent spot for high-end duty-free shopping in Kuta, Bali.
It is part of the global retail chain, Duty-Free Shoppers (DFS) and one of the best places to purchase international luxury brands like Cartier, Hermes, Coach and Burberry.
This luxury shopping mall isn't the place to go for local brands and cheap souvenirs. Here, you can expect a great range of premium products, including alcohol, cigarettes, perfumes and cosmetics.
To give you a better idea, we found that some luxury brands were about 5% to 8% cheaper when we looked at the exchange rate and the duty-free shopping.

Discovery Mall Bali
Facing the ocean, Discovery Mall is a solid favourite among foreign tourists to do some quick souvenir shopping and pick up some essentials.
As the shopping mall is under renovation, very few stores are open, and there is no food court. However, we liked that it is strategically located close to many hotels and has a great ocean view during sunset.

Grocery Shopping in Kuta, Bali
For nomads living in Kuta or long holiday stays in Kuta, there are a few spots we recommend getting your grocery done.
More often than not, the closer the supermarket is to Kuta Beach or other tourist spots, the more expensive the groceries are.
While particular items, like eggs and local instant noodles, were cheaper at local grocery stores, other products were more affordable at bigger supermarkets. So not only will you find a wider variety of daily groceries at a lower price, but you can also get foreign products like oat milk.
To save money, buy local brands rather than foreign brands where possible. During our stay in Kuta, we compared over five supermarkets to do our grocery shopping.
While there are more supermarkets in the area, here are the few we recommend grocery shopping in Kuta.
FoodMart
While the prices are less competitive, this supermarket is the most convenient to get your grocery shopping done. It's in a superb location, close to a few high-end hotels and Kuta beach.
Located on the lower ground floor of the beachwalk Shopping Centre, you will find excellent quality fresh fruits and meats here. Their freshly made bread section is often discounted. However, there is only a little choice for vegetables.
It's a relatively small supermarket and easy to navigate. To cater for the hotel guests nearby, they have a large organic section and familiar western brands for cereal, yoghurt and dry goods.
You can also find vegan alternatives here, which are typically harder to find in smaller grocery stores. However, these are imported goods, so be prepared to pay a little more.

Papaya Fresh Gallery
Papaya Fresh is a Japanese-style supermarket that's perfect if you want to stock up on Japanese and Korean grocery goods during your stay in Kuta.
Here, you'll find freshly made sushi, sashimi, and deep-fried goods. In particular, their ready-to-eat Japanese bento boxes are an excellent value for the quality. If you head here after 8 pm, their ready-to-eat meals go on a 40% discount or more.
Their bakery section is also one of the most extensive we've seen. So not only will you find regular fresh white bread, but also Japanese bakery goods.
Many of their fresh vegetables, fruits, and deli meats are individually packaged and sold in small portions. Perfect for a mid-week grocery shop or if you're picking up a few things to make a light lunch.
If you don't feel like making the trek to this supermarket, you can also shop via GrabMart, Whatsapp or calling directly. Depending on your order and location in Kuta, they can pack and deliver everything to you.

Hypermart
Rather than heading to your local grocery store, we suggest heading to Hypermart for a big shop. This is the biggest supermarket we visited, located away from the main tourist strip. For us, it was undoubtedly one of the best supermarkets for grocery shopping in Kuta.
They have everything you need on a day-to-day basis at very competitive prices. You can find snacks, raw vegetables, fruits, dairy products, ready-to-eat meals, and cooked meats. Food demonstrations and tasters are often available when you head to the food corner.
For most of these daily staples, you will find the local and equivalent international brands that you might be more familiar with. Other than grocery shopping, you can find affordable home and kitchen supplies here.
